Opening a joint account

Before you can open a joint account with someone else, you’ll each need to be BNZ customers first. 

How to get started

• Apply to open an account online. 
• After completing the qualifying questions, you’ll be asked ‘Who are you opening an account for?’ Select Me and someone else.
• In the next step you’ll be asked ‘Would you also like a bank account in your name only?’  
  • If you want your own account as well as a joint account, select Yes.
  • If you only want a joint account, select No.
• Follow the rest of the steps from there.

Call us to open a joint account

Once you’re each set up as BNZ customers, call us on 0800 275 269 to open your joint account.

We can open a joint account over the phone, or book an appointment for you to come into a branch. Either way, choose a time when you’re both available for 30 minutes as we’ll need to talk to you together.
