Opening an account as a sole trader
To open an account as a sole trader, we’ll need to know the trading name of your business (if applicable), and verify who you are and where you live.
ID and proof of address
We’ll need verified ID for yourself as the business owner. You can prove your ID using one of three ID combinations.
Ways to verify your ID include:
- face-to-face in a BNZ branch
- certified in writing by an approved trusted referee
- online through RealMe or with photos of your ID.
Countries of tax residence
You don’t need to provide a declaration of your countries of tax residence as a sole trader. You only need to provide your personal tax residency details.

Adding, changing, or removing an authorised person
We’ll need to collect and verify identification information for any new authorised person, and they may also need to fill out additional forms.
